“SHARING GRACE AND TRUTH FROM THE PSALMS ABOUT THE HOPES OF THE HELPLESS”

“SHARING GRACE AND TRUTH FROM THE PSALMS ABOUT THE HOPES OF THE HELPLESS”

Psalm 10:16 “The LORD is king forever and ever! Let those who worship other gods be swept from the land.”

Psalm 10:17 “LORD, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will listen to their cries and comfort them.”

Psalm 10:18 “You will bring justice to the orphans and the oppressed, so people can no longer terrify them.”

Taken from today’s reading in “The One Year Bible” by Zondervan.

1. The Lord knows the hopes of the helpless.

King David was crying out to God in this Psalm because of his enemies.
We learn several truths about our God from these verses.

#1. The LORD is king forever.
Imagine these three things said here.
First of all there is someone called the LORD.
Secondly, He is the king of kings.
Thirdly, the LORD is king forever and ever.

#2. The worship of other gods and it’s consequences are stated here.
There are those who worship what they think are gods.
They are called other gods.
Those who worship these so called other gods will be swept away in judgement by God.

#3. The LORD knows the hopes of the helpless.
God of course knows all things.
And here we see that He knows about the hopes of the hopeless.
What a verse this is. “The hope of the hopeless”
No doubt there hope was that God would help them when they were without hope at all.
But the Lord knows their situation and circumstance, and He knows Your’s as well.
And, we are comforted in knowing that “Surely You will listen to the their cries and comfort them”.
Thank You, Lord.

#4. The Lord will bring justice.
God cares deeply for orphans and for those who are oppressed.
And He will bring justice to these two groups of people
We are promised that God will deliver His people, and they will no longer be terrified.

Some final thoughts:

1. Isn’t it wonderful to know that our leader is the LORD, and that He is LORD forever and ever?

2. There is only one God, and He is the true and the living God. All other gods are non existent.

3. Hopelessness can find comfort in the Lord, in His Word, in Fellowship with other believers.

4. Vengeance belongs to the Lord.

5. One day, none of God’s people will ever be terrified again.

A prayer:

O God our King who has always been, and will always be, we praise Your High and Holy name. The name which is above all names. There is no God but You Lord. Thank You that You know what we have need of before we even ask. And, thank You that in reality, Your children are not really hopeless. But, it’s also true Lord as You have told us, that in the world we will have tribulation, but we are to be of good cheer because You have overcome the world. You hear us when we talk with You. You listen to us Lord, and for that we are thankful. We pray for those we know who are either truly orphans, or are orphan like, i.e they have no one to care for them. They are alone. And Lord there are the helpless, the widows, and such.
Oh God deliver them in their need we pray, amen. In Jesus’ name.
