“SHARING GRACE AND TRUTH FROM THE PSALMS ABOUT GOD SAVING US FROM OUR ENEMIES”

Psalm 18:2 “The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”

Psalm 18:3 “I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.”

Taken from today’s reading in “The One Year Bible” by Zondervan.

1. About God, His nature, and strength to save us from our enemies.

David gives us a very detailed look at, and understanding about our great God and Savior.

#1. The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer.

What David said about God is true for us today.
God does not change in His nature and character, He always remains the same, now and forever.
Here we see three truths about God, “Rock, Fortress, Deliverer”.
He is all of that and more for all of His children.

#2. My God, my strength in whom I will trust.

David called the LORD, “My God”
We can do the same thing.
Whoever puts their trust in God can say “My God”

David understood that God was his strength, and that He could trust in Him.
God can be trusted and believed in completely.

#3. My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Here are another three truths about the Lord.
He is our shield.
He is the horn or the strength of my salvation.
He is our stronghold, or place of safety

#4. I will call upon the LORD who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.

Here David expresses what he would do, i.e “I will call upon the LORD” etc.
David saw the LORD as worthy of being praised, and who would argue that truth.
David had, and so can we, the confidence that God will save us from our enemies.

Some final thoughts:

1. The God that David spoke about is our God, He has not changed, nor has the need man has for God changed.

2. The Lord is so much more than spoken of here.

3. The Lord will be all of these things to whoever will ask Him, or want Him to be.

A prayer:

Heavenly Father, You alone are above all, and there it truly no one even close to who You are. Thank You for revealing Yourself to us, and helping us understand who You are, and how we can come freely to You and find the shelter, the strength, the blessings of God upon our soul. We love You and ask that You compel each of our hearts to share Christ with any and all who need His saving love in their lives. In His name, amen.
