“SHARING GRACE AND TRUTH FROM THE PSALMS ABOUT TRUSTING GOD WHEN BEING PERSECUTED”

“SHARING GRACE AND TRUTH FROM THE PSALMS ABOUT TRUSTING GOD WHEN BEING PERSECUTED”

Psalm 31:14 “But as for me, I trust in You, O LORD; I say, “You are my God.””

Psalm 31:15 “My times are in Your hand; Deliver me from the hand of my enemies, And from those who persecute me.”

Taken from today’s reading in “The One Year Bible” by Zondervan.

1. We are given a great example in how King David responded when he was being persecuted.

Psalm 31:14 “But as for me, I trust in You, O LORD; I say, “You are my God.””

Psalm 31:15 “My times are in Your hand; Deliver me from the hand of my enemies, And from those who persecute me.”

Please notice what David did.

#1. He trusted in God.

#2. He realized the LORD is the “Existing One”

#3. He spoke and said, “You are my God”

#4. He realized his times, i.e his life was in God’s hands.

#5. He asked God to deliver him from the hand of his enemies

#6. He asked God to deliver him from his persecutors.

Some additional thoughts:

1. David had trouble upon trouble through his life.

2. David was a man after God’s own heart.

3. David would become discouraged, but God helped him to have faith in God.

4. David experienced the help and deliverance that comes only from God.

A prayer:

Father in heaven, may we be like King David was. May we find ourselves trusting You, resting in You, and responding to You as You speak to us and guide us. Thank You that our relationship with You is a very personal and intimate one. You know Your sheep, and they hear Your voice. We also are grateful to be reminded that nothing will ever happen to us that does not first pass your approval. You are in control Lord and we take great comfort in this truth. We love You, in Jesus name, amen.

“SHARING GRACE AND TRUTH FROM THE PSALMS ABOUT TWO GREAT BLESSINGS FROM OUR LORD”

“SHARING GRACE AND TRUTH FROM THE PSALMS ABOUT TWO GREAT BLESSINGS FROM OUR LORD”

Psalm 23:6 “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.”

Taken from today’s reading in “The Year Bible” by Zondervan.

1. Here David two major blessings we have from Jesus our shepherd.

Psalm 23:6 “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.”

#1. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.

We notice here that David was certain of what he was saying.

He said, “Surely” which comes from a word meaning to be good, be pleasing, be joyful, be beneficial, be favorable, be happy, be right.

David had been taught by the Lord about these blessings.
The goodness and mercy of God follow all of God’s children, all the day’s of their lives as well.
God’s lovingkindness follows us.
God’s mercy, I.E His not giving us what we deserve, follows us daily as well.

#2. Psalm 23:6 “And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.”

Whereas, the previous blessings of goodness and mercy were what was following David, here David is looking to the future and what was waiting for him.

David was assured that once this life was over, that God had a dwelling place for him forever.
We know that David is talking about heaven.
Heaven is God’s house.
Houses are where people live.
In this case, God’s people are going to live in God’s house forever and ever.

Some additional thoughts:

1. God has “unfailing love” for us.

2. God’s goodness and mercy are said to be pursuing the people of God all the days of their lives.

3. God is to be thanked for His relentless pursuit of our lives, wanting to bless them with goodness and mercy.

4. God assures us that He has this house, i.e heaven, and once we arrive their, it’s our eternal residence.

A prayer:

Our Father in heaven, thank You for Your goodness, and Your mercy. We do not know how many days we will live on this earth, but we do know what is following us day by day. And, what hope You have given us Lord. There is no one like You, and there is nothing that is greater than the salvation and future hope we have in You. Thank You.
In Jesus’ name, amen.

“SHARING GRACE AND TRUTH FROM THE PSALMS ABOUT GOD’S RESPONSE TO THE AFFLICTED SOUL”

“SHARING GRACE AND TRUTH FROM THE PSALMS ABOUT GOD’S RESPONSE TO THE AFFLICTED SOUL”

Psalm 22:24 “For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from Him; But when He cried to Him, He heard.”

Taken from today’s reading in “The One Year Bible” by Zondervan.

1. We see three wonderful truths about God.

Psalm 22:24 “For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from Him; But when He cried to Him, He heard.”

#1. God does not despise nor abhor the affliction of the afflicted.
The simple truth here, is that God does not “ignore” the suffering of the needy.

#2. Nor has He hidden His face from the afflicted.
Additionally, God does not turn and walk away from the afflicted.

#3. When the afflicted cry out to God He hears them.
What the Lord does do, is to listen to their cries for help.

Some additional thoughts:

1. God loves the world, period, there is no question about that. He proved it by sending Jesus who died for us while we sinners. He has proved His love for each and every person.

2. In particular, He would never not care for, nor never ignore the sufferings that people go through.

3. God will not turn away from the person who is suffering and crying out to Him.

4. When a suffering person calls out to God, they can be positively sure, He is listening to them.

A prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, we hallow Your name this very day. We honor You, we look to You and we thank You Father for Your grace, Your mercy, Your peace, and also for the living hope we have in Jesus Christ.
Thank You for caring for the hurting, and would You please help us to have the mind of Christ, when it comes to our being able to care for, love and offer real help to those who are suffering. We ask this in Jesus name, amen.

Psalm 19:10 “More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.”

Psalm 19:11 “Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward.”

Taken from today’s reading in “The One Year Bible” by Zondervan.

1. Here we are given a detailed description of the blessings and power of God’s Word to us in the Bible.

#1. God’s Word, or Law is perfect, converting the soul.

#2. The testimony of the LORD is sure making wise the simple.

#3 The statutes of the LORD are right rejoicing the heart.

#4. The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.

#6. The judgements of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

#7. They are more to be desired than fine gold.

#8. They are sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

#9. Moreover by them Your servant is warned.

#10. And in keeping them there is great reward.

Some additional and closing thoughts here.

1. God has spoken to us, and His Word is so effective as this Psalm shows.

2. Here’s the list again in one word descriptions. Perfect, Converting the soul. Sure, making wise the simple, Right, rejoicing the heat, pure enlightening the eyes. Clean, enduring forever. True and righteous, More desirable than fine gold. Sweeter than honey. Warning us, and a great reward in keeping His Word.

A prayer:

“SHARING GRACE AND TRUTH FROM THE PSALMS ABOUT GOD BEING OUR SHIELD AND RESCUER”

“SHARING GRACE AND TRUTH FROM THE PSALMS ABOUT GOD BEING OUR SHIELD AND RESCUER”

Psalm 18:16 “He sent from above, He took me; He drew me out of many waters.”

Psalm 18:27 “For You will save the humble people, But will bring down haughty looks.”

Psalm 18:28 “For You will light my lamp; The LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.”

Psalm 18:29 “For by You I can run against a troop, By my God I can leap over a wall.”

Psalm 18:30 “As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the LORD is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.”

Taken from today’s reading in “The One Year Bible” by Zondervan.

(David wrote this Psalm in the day that God delivered him from all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. And, here is what he said)

1. God sends from above in heaven to help His people.

Psalm 18:16 “He sent from above, He took me; He drew me out of many waters.”

In this case, David describes himself as being drawn out of many waters, no doubt a metaphor and illustration of the a time when he was in a lot of danger from those who wanted to kill him.

But, the Lord was faithful, He reached down from heaven and rescued David, and He will do the same for any of His children.

2. Here are two things that God will do.

Psalm 18:27 “For You will save the humble people, But will bring down haughty looks.”

He will save the humble people, but He will bring down or humiliate the proud.
God gives grace to the humble, but He resists the proud.

3. God gives us light, especially when we are in darkness from the enemy.

Psalm 18:28 “For You will light my lamp; The LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.”

God Himself is light. And, God gives us light, i.e understanding and truth.
David declared that God would light his lamp. In other words, God would enable David to see what he needed to see when he was in this difficult situation.
Darkness in the Bible is a symbol of sin, Satan’s domain, etc.
God will bring us light when we are being attacked.

4. Here are a number of blessed truths about our God and how He acts towards His people.

Psalm 18:29 “For by You I can run against a troop, By my God I can leap over a wall.”

Psalm 18:30 “As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the LORD is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.”

#1. God will enable you to crush an army.

#2. God will enable you to scale a wall.

#3. God’s way is perfect, and His Word is proven, or all of His promises prove to be true, and He is a shield of protection to all those who put their trust in God.

Some final thoughts:

1. God is in heaven, and we are here below, and He acts on our behalf. Heaven sees and knows what is happening in the lives of God’s children.

2. God is able to rescue His people, even from the worst of situations.

3. God will see to it, that His people have light to guide their way.

4. We can trust God’s Word completely.

5. God is, and will be your shield as trust is placed in Him.

A prayer:

Father in heaven, we exalt Your name, we acknowledge with joy, that You have created us to know You, and You have provided that way through Jesus to deal with our sins. Lord we also know that any trial is designed to help us grow. Please help us to embrace them, knowing You will use them to give us strength and to help us grow. We also thank You that it’s You we look to for shelter and deliverance when under attack. We love You very much, in Jesus name, amen.
